Microsoft Clarity Alternative for Product Teams

Microsoft Clarity Alternative for Product Teams

Microsoft Clarity offers free session recordings, heatmaps, funnels, and AI-assisted review. Monolytics combines questions about your site with focused Record Campaigns and targeted Website Surveys. Compare them using one flow your team needs to investigate.

Checked October 13, 2026. Vendor features and plan terms can change. Use the linked official sources and your own traffic when evaluating either product.

What Clarity supports today

Clarity’s product page lists session recordings, heatmaps, AI summaries, and AI chat. Its current capabilities also include:

  • More than 30 filters, including actions, page paths, traffic, performance, custom labels, and Smart Events. You can save filter combinations as segments.
  • Funnels built from page visits and Smart Events. Funnel results show step counts and conversion, with links to filtered recordings and heatmaps.
  • Session Insights, which summarize session behavior for review.

These capabilities make Clarity a reasonable starting point when you need free replay, heatmaps, or funnel investigation.

What to evaluate in Monolytics

Ask a question about your site

Monolytics Assistant uses collected activity and business context to answer questions about visitor paths, errors, friction, and the state of your data. Inspect the answer’s scope and sources, open supporting sessions, and check what remains unknown.

For example, ask which sessions show repeated validation attempts before a signup exit. A useful answer gives you evidence to inspect; it does not establish what the visitor was thinking or prove that validation caused the exit. Read the Assistant guide for the current workflow and question allowance.

Collect a focused set of sessions

Use Session Replay and Record Campaigns when you already know the flow you want to investigate. Define supported collection conditions and a campaign limit, then review the sessions collected within that scope.

A campaign’s collection cap and a plan’s monthly tracked visitor session allowance are separate. Neither allowance means every visitor has a playable replay. Review the current pricing definitions before comparing volume.

Ask visitors about the experience

Website Surveys lets you ask a short question at a supported moment. For a signup investigation, a neutral question might be: “What, if anything, made this step difficult?”

Review the response and its available context. An associated replay is useful when the underlying record exists; not every answer has one. Reported experience and observed behavior remain separate evidence. The targeted-feedback guide shows how to check the setup.

Compare the jobs, then the plans

Your taskWhat to check
Find sessions from one failed journeyTest the relevant filters or collection conditions with a successful comparison group.
Review an AI answerCheck its data scope, missing signals, and whether you can inspect the supporting evidence.
Understand a visitor’s reported experienceTest survey targeting and review what context is available with the response.
Estimate collection needsCompare tracked sessions, playable replays, retention, campaign caps, and question allowances separately.
Prepare production captureVerify masking, recording scope, consent handling, and access for your own site.

Clarity is free. Monolytics publishes Free, Growth, and Pro plans on its pricing page. A paid plan is not a reason to expect a better answer; choose according to the work your team can complete and the evidence it can verify.

Run one small evaluation

  1. Choose a flow, such as signup, and define completion with a verified event or route.
  2. Check capture and privacy settings using non-sensitive test activity.
  3. Find failed sessions and comparable successful sessions in each product.
  4. Use the available analysis tools, then inspect representative recordings.
  5. Record what each answer supports, what is missing, and the next check you can make.
  6. Compare current plan terms against that same traffic and retention requirement.

Stay with Clarity if its replay, heatmaps, funnels, and AI tools answer your team’s questions. Evaluate Monolytics if its Assistant, campaign collection, or targeted feedback workflow addresses a recurring need. That choice does not require a claim that either tool is universally faster or better.
